In Camera...Liverpool Hosts Disney Magic

The Liverpool waterfront was graced with the cruise ship Disney Magic last Friday as the ship paid a day long visit to the city.

Later the same evening the Disney Magic departed from Liverpool, passing Antony Gormley's Iron Men on Crosby beach as she sailed out into the Irish Sea.

In Camera...Liverpool Waterfront

The time of the full moon a couple of weeks ago was a chance to photograph the Liverpool Waterfront in all its glory. Unfortunately cloud in the eastern sky obscured the moon somewhat but the skyline of Liverpool still looks impressive.

In Camera...Mersey River Festival

Last weekend saw the International Mersey River Festival event held along Liverpool's waterfront and in the Albert and Canning Dock area. The weather was kind over the weekend, and crowds thronged the docks viewing the ships and entertainment.

A big attraction was the new "Dazzle Ship", the Liverpool Pilot Ship "Edmund Gardner" repainted in a style similar to the way ships were painted during WW1, as part of the Liverpool Biennial.

In Camera ... The Queen Elizabeth in Liverpool

Yesterday, Liverpool was host to Cunard's Queen Elizabeth. This image was captured from close to Seacombe Ferry Terminal on the Wirral during a bright spell in the slowly improving weather of Tuesday afternoon.

In Camera ... Liverpool Waterfront

The Liverpool Waterfront viewed from Seacombe ferry terminal early one morning this week. It was a beautiful calm morning, the towers of the city reflecting in the gentle rippled surface of the Mersey. A thin bank of cloud was blocking the sun but this soon evaporated in the heat of the day.

In Camera ... Calm evening, Albert Dock

The wonderfully calm and unusually mild weather over the weekend gave some impressive skies and beautifully reflective water in this scene by the Albert Dock on Liverpool's Waterfront.

In Camera ... HMS Liverpool and the Liverpool Waterfront

HMS Liverpool sailed into the Mersey for the last time this week before being decommissioned. I took the opportunity of the recent spell of good weather to capture this new waterfront image with HMS Liverpool moored at the liner terminal.

In Camera ... Sunrise over Liverpool

The sleeping city awakes
The sleeping city awakes; this is the first picture I took as I set up on the promenade near Seacombe ferry terminal. I have been wanting to update my Liverpool sunrise pictures for some time and the recent spell of good weather gave me the ideal combination of clear skies and the right time of year to capture the sun rising over Liverpool's Royal Liver Building. Other times I have made many trips to try to capture this event only to be thwarted by cloud, mist or cranes on the skyline but this week everything was just right with no cranes in site.

Monday 11th October - this mornings photographs were not even planned. It had been a lovely clear sky last night, see my pictures from yesterday above, and I woke at 06.45 and wondered if it was still clear. Looking out the sky was a pale blue green, a gimmer of yellow on the eastern horizon. I quickly dressed, a slurp of hot tea to refresh and out at seven. The traffic was light and I arrived at Seacombe ferry terminal car park around 07.25, the Liverpool waterfront a strong silhouette against a lightening sky. I took some pictures before sunrise, the sky a pale orange behind the Liver buildings which shield the first rays of the rising sun from me. Around 07.40 the sun showed its first glimmer of light as it rose over the top of the Liver Buildings, bright burning yellow light streaking across the river, I worked quickly to capture the first rays of light over the city, soon the sun was clear of the buildings and too bright to look directly into. Another day had begun, the sky an unbroken blue but for the trails of aircraft reflecting the light of the sun.

These images will soon be available to purchase in the Liverpool Gallery of my main website. Just click on the title of this blog to go directly there.
