In Camera...Changing Light at the End of the Year

Visits to Crosby beach over the turn of the year produced these differing images. The one above was taken on New Year's Eve and captures the last light of day for the year of 2016.
I also turned this to black and white for part of my series "Light on Water".

The following evening was much clearer, the first sunset of 2017 revealed vivid colours and beams of crepuscular light caused by the shadows of clouds streaking across the sky as the sun sank into the west over the hills of North Wales.

In Camera...Beautiful Light and Storm Seas

Sunset on a stormy January evening at Another Place, Crosby beach. Rough seas, driven by a

bitingly cold north westerly wind sweeping across the Irish Sea, are given added drama by this wonderful display of crepuscular light. 

Last week the coastline at Crosby was assaulted by strong winds and rough seas and the changeable weather driven by the intense lows and storm fronts that passed over the country resulted in some dramatic skies. This image will shortly be available from the web site as AG645.

In Camera...Rough Seas at Crosby Beach

Outward bound into the storm

 Wednesday 10th December was the day when the so called "stormbomb" created strong winds over the United Kingdom. Here at Crosby we had gusts up to 56mph and, combined with the high tide just after 13.00, there were some rough seas down at Crosby beach. I am always amazed at how the iron men sculptures withstand the pounding they get at times like this when the waves smack into them.

The clouds were racing by, full of blustery showers, but I was fortunate when taking these photographs that gaps appeared to allow wonderful rays of crepuscular light to beam down on the scene, creating interest in the sky and sparkling highlights on the rough seas.

In Camera...A Curtain of Golden Light

Yesterday afternoon at Crosby beach was not a promising day for good photography as grey clouds scudded across the sky driven by a strong west wind, always with the threat of rain. Late afternoon a patch of brightness grew in the clouds over Wales, a crack in the sky through which golden rays of crepuscular light poured through, forming this stunning backdrop to the Iron Men of Another Place.
