On the Beach....Volcanic Sunset
April will be remembered for the days of volcanic dust in the atmosphere. This picture was taken on Crosby beach just before sunset on Thursday 15th April, the day all flights were cancelled. The layers of dust high in the atmosphere resulted in a couple of days of red suns sinking into the sea.
The following day the sunset was very similar with the sun sinking into a dusty hazy horizon but the best light came after sunset with the wonderful afterglow filling the sky as seen below. If you look carefully a sliver of new moon near top left and the twinkling of Venus below have just made their presence felt in the sky.
